(The Center Square) – The reaction to President Donald Trump’s endorsement in Wisconsin’s race for the Supreme Court is what was expected.
Trump on Friday endorsed Judge Brad Schimel in next week’s race for the high court.
“Brad Schimel is running against Radical Left Liberal Susan Crawford, who has repeatedly given child molesters, rapists, women beaters, and domestic abusers “light” sentences. She is the handpicked voice of the Leftists who are out to destroy your State, and our Country — And if she wins, the Movement to restore our Nation will bypass Wisconsin,” the president said in a post on Truth Social.
Crawford’s campaign responded almost immediately.
“Brad Schimel is a corrupt politician who let 6,000 rape kits sit untested and gave a plea deal to a child predator whose attorney gave him $5,000. Schimel has spent his entire career on bent knee to right-wing special interests, we assumed he had this endorsement locked up months ago. Schimel has said he wants to be a ‘support network’ for Trump and that the Wisconsin Supreme Court ‘screwed over’ Trump in 2020,” her campaign said in a statement.
Schimel said he was pleased to get Trump’s backing.
“I’m humbled and deeply honored to receive the endorsement of our president. The stakes of this race could not be any higher,” Schimel said in a statement.
Wisconsin’s Republican Party boss said the president’s endorsement is a game-changer.
“Momentum is on our side. Wisconsinites are sick and tired of judicial activists like dangerously liberal Susan Crawford. President Donald J. Trump’s endorsement of Judge Brad Schimel will bring more attention to this critical election to save Wisconsin and America,” Republican chairman Brian Schimming said.
The race between Schimel and Crawford is already the most expensive in Wisconsin history, and the most expensive in U.S. History.
WisPolitics on Thursday reported that the race has now topped $76 million in spending. There is still a full week left before Election Day.
