Last week, the Lake Country DockHounds were walking tall as they held the top spot in the American Association of Baseball’s East Division standings. However, this week they have given up that coveted spot, falling into second place. Their current record is nearly split, with the team having 20 wins against their 17 losses. However, the Chicago Dogs have been on a bit of a hot streak. The Dogs have been on a 3 game winning streak and have won 8 out of their last 10 games. Currently, they’ve amassed 22 wins and have the same number of losses, 17, as the DockHounds.
Due to several weather delays, the Dogs have not had to postpone as many games as the DockHounds have this season, meaning that there is a discrepancy between the two organizations’ game records. This means that the Dogs naturally have a higher PCT (0.564) than the DockHounds (0.541).
Despite spending the past week at home, the Lake Country DockHounds had a patchy week. They’ve only won 6 of their last 10 games, a nearly even split that could signify a bit of a rut. They started the week by winning their series against the Lincoln Saltdogs, a team that is currently ranked last in the league’s Western Division. Their Wednesday game was postponed, so Lake Country and Lincoln played a double header on Thursday. The first game Lincoln won 4-0, but the second game saw DockHounds take the series with a 4-6 win.
The DockHounds finished their week by taking on Wisconsin’s other franchise team, the Milwaukee Milkmen. Milwaukee won the second game, but the first was a wild game. The DockHounds won 6-12, and the high scoring game was a great return to form for Lake Country. The team’s current batting leader is Brian Rey, who has both the highest HR count (8) as well as the team’s highest RBI (26).
Next week, the DockHounds will hit the road again. After wrapping up their series with the Milkmen on Sunday, they will set sails for Cleburne, Texas to face off against the Railroaders. They will play two consecutive series at Cleburne’s La Moderna Field. The Texas-based team has only won 4 of their last 10 games, but will have a sustained home field advantage that might threaten the DockHounds.
