Pewaukee Lake Elementary Hosts Inclusive Prom to Support Scholarship Fund

Prom season is usually reserved for high schoolers, but Pewaukee Lake Elementary (PLE) is proving that younger students can also experience the magic of a special dance. On February 14, PLE will host its own prom, an event designed to be inclusive for all families while supporting a meaningful cause.

According to The Waukesha Freeman, three second-grade teachers—Lisa Seeger, Sarah Torbenson, and Katie Krupinski—spearheaded the initiative. Unlike traditional father-daughter or mother-son dances, they wanted to create an event that welcomes everyone. “We thought this would be something inclusive to all families,” said Torbenson.

The teachers first had to secure approval from Superintendent Mike Cady, which they did in a fun and memorable way. Since Cady is a wrestling coach, they designed a wrestling-themed “promposal” asking, “Dr. Cady, Can we host PLE prom? Don’t wrestle with the decision. Can we pin you down?” The creative approach paid off, and the event was greenlit.

Students have embraced the promposal trend, with creative invitations extending to parents and even teachers. One teacher, Trish Zahn, used Hot Wheels to spell out “PLE Prom With Mom” for her son, while Krupinski’s daughter was thrilled to be part of the dance.

The excitement has also reached other schools in the district. Two fourth-grade students from Horizon Elementary submitted an audition tape and persuasive letter to DJ the event, and students from Asa Clark Middle School have volunteered to help.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Pewaukee Scholarship Fund, helping Pewaukee High School graduates pursue their future aspirations. “It is going to be an exciting day for families and students and for our community,” said Torbenson.
