Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, delivering an inaugural address that portrayed the nation on the cusp of a “golden age” after years of what he called a “horrible betrayal.” His speech, delivered in the Capitol Rotunda due to cold weather, was both a promise of national revival and a rebuke of the previous administration’s policies.

Trump opened his speech with a vision of unity, stating, “From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world.” He promised to put America first, emphasizing the reclamation of national sovereignty, restoration of safety, and rebalancing of justice. He vowed to end what he described as the “vicious, violent and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government.”

Throughout his address, Trump outlined several immediate policy actions, including declaring a national energy emergency to accelerate oil, gas, and power projects, aiming to curb inflation and restore manufacturing prowess. He announced plans to sign numerous executive orders, signaling a swift shift in policy direction from immigration to energy.

He also touched on social issues, stating, “As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders — male and female,” engaging directly with ongoing debates over gender identity.

Trump’s speech was not without personal anecdotes, recounting his survival of an assassination attempt, which he attributed to divine intervention for the purpose of national restoration. “I was saved by God to make America great again,” he declared.

The address also included promises of military strength and peace, with Trump expressing a desire to be remembered as a “peacemaker and unifier,” alongside plans to release classified files from the 1960s and actions for border security.

As he concluded, Trump painted a picture of a revitalized America, promising “a new era of American victory and leadership,” and ended with the hopeful note that “the golden age of America has just begun.”

The speech set the tone for what Trump’s administration aims to achieve, reflecting his campaign promises and setting the stage for what he described as a “complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense.”

Trump’s remarks were met with applause from supporters gathered inside the Capitol, although the audience was more limited than in traditional outdoor inaugurations due to the weather. The address was also a clear signal of the aggressive policy agenda Trump plans to pursue from day one.
