Pewaukee celebrated a meaningful milestone on Monday with the groundbreaking of the Bell Tower Memorial at Kiwanis Village Park, located at 325 Capitol Drive. This moment marks the continuation of an important mission to honor veterans and preserve their stories.

According to the Waukesha Freeman, the memorial will serve as a lasting tribute to those who served, featuring flags representing each branch of the military, a ceremonial bell, and benches for reflection.

Founded in 2016, the Bell Tower Memorial (BTM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving military history, fostering education, and honoring the sacrifices of veterans and community members.

According to BTM’s website, the mission has always been to “Honor, Educate, and Remember” through various programs, events, and the construction of the community memorial.

The group emphasizes the importance of capturing firsthand accounts from veterans, ensuring that their stories are not lost to time. “So much of our country’s military history and first-hand accounts of bravery by our hometown soldiers is not being shared or recorded,” BTM explains. Through its Veterans Oral History Project, classroom visits, and events like “Take a Vet to Lunch,” the organization provides opportunities for the community to engage with these powerful stories.

Residents can also contribute by purchasing custom bricks to help support the memorial’s construction. Once completed, the Bell Tower Memorial will be a place where veterans’ legacies are preserved and future generations can learn about the invaluable lessons shaped by sacrifice and service.

As BTM continues its mission, the memorial promises to become a cherished space for honoring veterans and bringing the community together to reflect on the past while fostering a deeper appreciation for those who have served.
