KEY POINTS

  • Biden heading to key midterm states for a Labor Day campaign event for the “dignity of American workers” 2 months before the elections.
  • Evers and Barnes are hesitant to appear alongside the President as November approaches.
  • Democratic candidates don’t want to associate themselves with Biden before the midterm; most Wisconsin voters disapprove of him.

Joe Biden is heading to Milwaukee for his upcoming Labor Day campaign event, stating that it is a celebration of the “dignity of American workers.”

These stops in key midterm states are also being utilized as a hail mary to secure more votes for Democratic candidates during the final stretch before the midterm elections. However, this isn’t necessarily going as planned.

Democratic Governor Tony Evers seems less than enthused about Biden’s trip to the Badger State. When asked about the president’s upcoming event, he responded, “He’s the President of the United States. We have a good relationship, and I’m looking forward to it. As for the value of campaigning with the president or not, I’ll let the people of Wisconsin figure that out.”

Evers isn’t the only one with cold feet, either. Democrat Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, who is running for U.S. Senate, issued a statement via his campaign website about the upcoming Labor Day events. There was no mention of Biden’s trip to Milwaukee.

The message stated, “The Lt. Governor is excited to participate in Laborfest events throughout Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine. His priority is talking to Wisconsin voters and supporting the labor movement that gave his family a ticket to the middle class.”

Deep-rooted disapproval for Biden across the state may prevent these candidates from even crossing paths with the President during the Labor Day event, nonetheless appearing with him. The same President who shares their far-left views and ideologies. Wisconsin voters are rejecting the democrats’ failed policies, and residents of Wisconsin are eager and hopeful for change in November.

Mandela Barnes is often referred to as one of the most radical candidates in the 2022 midterms. Mandela Barnes believes felons shouldn’t lose the right to vote and supports the Green New Deal. He has also advocated abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), permitting driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants, providing college tuition to illegal immigrants, and defunding “over-bloated” police departments.

Barnes envisions an entirely government-run healthcare system and wishes to cancel the Senate filibuster and pack the Supreme Court. Wisconsin voters care about addressing crime and inflation, two things that are not on Barnes’ agenda.

The Republican candidate for Governor, Tim Michels, tweeted, “From gas prices to food at the grocery store, everything is costing more because of Joe Biden and Tony Evers’ failures. Looking forward to hearing Biden explain why he is trying to drive costs further while forcing blue-collar workers to pay for everyone else’s college degrees.”

It makes sense to have Biden appear with them, be transparent about shared policies and ideas, and open up that conversation with Wisconsin voters. However, we will have to see how it plays out over Labor Day weekend.
