Most farmer’s markets are held on Saturdays and Sundays from late morning to the mid-afternoon. Throughout southeastern Wisconsin, it’s hard to find a small town or city that doesn’t have a weekend market. Pewaukee, however, is special. The town hosts a farmer’s market on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The market stands out for taking place in the middle of the week and later in the evening, meaning that it fills a time slot that has little competition. It has a slower, more relaxed atmosphere, all while drawing in crowds of people that might not otherwise be able to make the journey on weekends. Here’s your peak Pewaukee’s unforgettable market.
The first Pewaukee farmer’s market of the 2025 summer season was held on Wednesday, May 14. With it being so early in the season, several slots were still vacant. Presumably, they will be filled in as the weather grows warmer and more seasonable products become available. A handful of produce was for sale a a few stands, selling rhubarb, asparagus, and various herbs and spices. Typical farmer’s market favorites likes flower bouquets, corn, and tomatoes will likely not be available for a few weeks. However, these vegetables were ripe and well grown, a good indictor of what may prove to be a successful crop year.
The L-shaped market had a short cap of three food trucks, offering artisanal coffee drinks, Mexican, and Asian food options. Along the main strip of the market were a handful of local vendors with unique and well-made goods. One gentleman sold old bourbon barrels that he had reworked into chairs and other fun fixtures for the home. Another sold hand sculpted pottery. Moleta, a knife sharpening business, was offering their services to visitors as well.
Those attending the Pewaukee farmer’s market should plan to come hungry. There were several baked good available, including a stand filled with sourdough bread of all types and another stand with a scrumptious selection of colorfully sweet treats. Jen’s Sweetmix, a Waukesha based company that sells an original snack mix, was there offering samples. Of course, the market wouldn’t be complete without a lemonade and kettle corn stand that smelled too good to resist.
Although the Pewaukee farmer’s market is still small at this point in the season, it is extremely high quality. The staff are friendly and chatty, and the kids tent makes the event a true family affair. For those feeling overwhelmed with weekend markets, the Pewaukee farmer’s market is a great middle of the week stop.
