The Lake Country DockHounds have become an integral part of the community since their founding in 2021. Dominic Stearn is a shining example of how the team has made talented, creative young people a crucial part of its identity. Dominic plays many roles for the DockHounds and is never afraid to step up and take on a new challenge. However, most people know him for his voice, as Dominic Stearn serves as the DockHound’s play-by-play broadcaster.
Dominic has been everywhere. His adventurous attitude and love of sportscasting has led him all across the country. Dominic hails from the west coast, where he grew up in San Diego, California. It was there that he found his passion for baseball. Dominic has been a lifelong San Diego Padres fan, going to games for his entire life- Including the long seasons when the team faced a losing record.
“Kids used to make fun of me for being a Padres fan, but now that they’re winning, everyone jumped on the bandwagon… I’m a diehard.”
Going to so many Major League Baseball games gave Dominic a particular passion for baseball, as he stated: “Baseball is the sport I care the most about.”
Dominic pursued his dream in college. Attending Arizona State University, he earned a degree in sports journalism. From there, he took a handful of broadcasting jobs all across the country. For a short while he worked in Florida, spending weeks sleeping on a couch so that he’d be available to call baseball games. His persistence paid off, as that experience gave him the opportunity to work for the DockHounds.
“The one team that gave me an opportunity was the DockHounds.”
The move from San Diego to Oconomowoc was a big change, but one that Dominic feels confident in. Ten months ago, Dominic decided to stop flying back and forth between Wisconsin and California when he chose to permanently move to Lake Country for the team. “It feels like home for me.” He said, “Being by the water in Lake Country reminds me a lot of where I grew up.”
Although he’s had to make adjustments for the weather (“I wasn’t prepared for the cold and wind!”), Dominic seems grateful for the new community he’s found. “Midwestern hospitality is true.” He claims. Perhaps most important of all, he’s discovered the Wisconsin love for fried cheese: “I’ve had mozzarella sticks before but the cheese curds are a different animal- I love them.”
Best of all, Dominic has found a new home with the DockHounds. Traveling with the team across the country to broadcast games has turned his coworkers into close friends. He has great memories exploring the nation and seeing so many unique places. “I love how family oriented we are. It’s such an awesome thing to see and experience.”
