Basse’s Farms Provides A Wisconsin Experience Unlike Any Other

Basse’s “Taste of Country” Farms has become a well known and greatly loved spot in southeastern Wisconsin. Many include on their list of autumn essentials, as it’s known for its apples, pumpkins, and fun harvest activities such as corn mazes and hay rides. However, for a few glorious weeks in the end of June, Basse’s allows guests into its fields for a U-Pick Strawberry experience.

While there are many small, local farms that offer strawberry picking experiences, a trip to Basse’s is more than worthwhile. Its expansive grounds, friendly staff, and attention to detail make it a hit for families, friends, and anyone looking to enjoy some of the freshest fruits around.

Each year, Basse’s has around 155,000 producing plants. This whopping number means that there are aisles and aisles of ripe berries to choose from. Most years, they offer pre-picked pounds of strawberries at their country store on the lot. However, with the intense heat and high demand for U-Pick, they have cut off pre-picked sales for the 2025 season. They’ve already begun preparing for 2026, though, by adding an addition 40,000 plants to their ever growing crop.

What makes Basse’s so special is its willingness to make the quaint activity into a memorable experience. The farm has a fleet of comfortable, spacious tractor pulled carts that will transport guests out into the fields. from there, helpful guides instruct visitors on where they should begin picking, and encourage them to look for the biggest, bright red berries they can find. There is a five pound minimum for purchasing berries, but there are scales out in the field to help manage amounts. The rustic crates are easy to carry and move around with.

After visitors are finished picking, those same tractors take you back to the main lot. From there, the staff quickly and kindly weighs the fresh fruit. Snap peas are also available for purchase by the bag. In addition to the strawberry picking itself, there are also fun photo ops located around the grounds. There is a tent which sells freshly squeezed lemonade near the front entrance.

Their country store is also a can’t miss destination. They sell seasonal favorites such as strawberry donuts, strawberry shakes, cherry crullers, and pies. For adults, there’s a great coffee bar, and for the whole family, there’s a vast selection of ice cream cones.

Basse’s has been around since 1997. It’s a gem that’s only a stone’s throw from the heart of Lake Country, and an experience you can’t miss this summer.
