The Lake Country DockHounds have fallen to second place in the American Association of Professional Baseball’s East Division. Last week, the team finished their week with a win that put them in a comfortable first place lead. However, after a series of losses, them team has slipped to second place. Their record of 8 wins and 5 losses has placed them behind the Cleburne Railroaders, who currently have 11 wins with only 4 losses.
The last week started off strong for the DockHounds, with the team winning two games at home against the Sioux City Explorers. The Explorers are a West Division team with a solid winning record, ending this week in second place in the West with 10 wins and 5 losses. The DockHounds narrowly won their first game against Sioux City on Tuesday, May 20. However, a rain delay on Wednesday forced the team to postpone their second game until the following day. On Thursday, May 22 the DockHounds played a double header against the Explorers, with the Hounds finding victory in the first game. A walk off win allowed the team to take down their opponents.
The second game of the double header proved to be less successful for the DockHounds. For the first time of the 2025 baseball season, the team lost a game at home. Sioux Falls surged ahead with a 2-0 victory. As the DockHounds hit the road, traveling to face the Kansas City Monarchs, they ran into problems at Legends Field. The Monarchs are the current Western Division champions, with a 11-3 record. Good weather and good crowds gave Kansas City the upper hand. The DockHounds lost their first game in a crushing 9-3 defeat after the Monarchs pushed ahead with a stacked scoring game. The second game saw the DockHounds put up a good fight, but ultimately fell short with a 3-2 loss. However, they did show off their chops with six stolen bases allowing for two runs.
The DockHounds were unable to win this series, producing their first series loss of 2025. Next week, the team will remain on the road, as they head to Lincoln to face the Saltdogs. The Saltdogs ranked last in the Western Division, only raking in 3 wins thus far. After a painful week, the DockHounds are looking to their current hitting leaders Brian Rey and Daunte Stuart. The two are the only players who currently have batting averages above .300 and have hit more than one homer this season.
