The former Donald Trump attorney John Eastman has announced that he will be speaking at the Cornerstone in Oconomowoc on Monday, February 17. His speech will be accompanied by a showing of the movie The Eastman Dilemma: Lawfare or Justice. Eastman’s appearance is intended to address Wisconsinites’ concerns about election integrity and voter fraud. Inquiries into Wisconsin’s election integrity laws have garnered much attention as of late, with former Senate candidate Eric Hovde raising questions over secure voting methods.
The event is being sponsored by the Republican Women of Waukesha County. Alexandra Schweitzer, President of the RWWC, stated that: “Eastman is a constitutional giant among lawyers. When he tried to discover the truth about the 2020 election, the courts turned on him, tried to take his law license, tried to dis-bar him, and tried put him in jail. If they can do it to him, they can do it to anyone”.
Eastman became a figure of national importance while working for President Trump in 2020 when he devised a plan for Mike Pence to overturn the results of the 2020 election and hinder Congress’s certification of that election. Eastman became further involved with the 2020 election as he tried to expose allegations of voter fraud in Wisconsin, as well as in Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. He spoke alongside Rudy Giuliani at the January 6, 2021 “Save America” rally before the protest at the Capitol. As a result of Eastman’s public investigations into the outcome of the 2020 election, he was investigated and charged by the California State Bar, who marked him as “Not Illegible to Practice Law” in the state of California. This came as a result of him being charged for a prosecution related to the 2020 election in both the state of Arizona and the state of Georgia.
In 2022, Eastman met with the Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly to discuss election integrity in the state. Although the meeting was private, it was alleged that they discussed overturning electoral votes that had possibly been fraudulently cast.
John Eastman’s return to Wisconsin comes amidst a shifting political landscape. With President Trump’s re-election in 2024, there is far less residual bitterness over the results of the 2020 election. Still, many Wisconsin Republicans have continued to push for election integrity, including Hovde. In a video released on X, Hovde claimed that he wanted to press to investigate whether or not “The [2024] election was waged fairly”.
