Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has declared today, Monday, June 16, 2025 as the state’s official “Kwik Trip Day”. Today marks the 60th anniversary of the business’s operations. Kwik Trip was created in the state of Wisconsin, and is well known for being a beloved part of the state’s culture. Evers’ declaration is a way to pay tribute to a company that has worked diligently to provide high quality services and jobs across Wisconsin and well into the midwest.
“Recognized nationally as one of the best large employers, Kwik Trip takes pride in fostering positive work environments and supporting the success of their employees, as well as extending generosity to the communities they serve through sponsorships, programs, and donations,” stated Evers. “Kwik Trip employees work to provide world class customer service and build a sense of belonging and community through meaningful interactions, leaving guests with their signature friendly farewell ‘See you next time’“.
60 years ago, Kwik Trip was founded by a pair of families in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Hansen and Zietlow opened the first store on South Hastings Way, where it operated as a small corner store. At first, they didn’t sell any fuel. Instead, they were known as an innovative business that was open year round, including holidays and weekends. The first store proved to be a massive success, and several other locations opened up in subsequent years through the Eau Claire area. In
Over the next few decades, Kwik Trip saw significant growth. In 1970, they finally began to sell fuel. The company expanded into the La Crosse area, and in 1973 they established their corporate headquarters and primary distribution center there. By 1986, the company had established 100 locations. By 1997, they opened their first car wash.
In its 60 years of operation, Kwik Trip has become something of a cultural phenomenon and a source of pride for Wisconsin. Although the company has expanded beyond the state lines, its products are still often considered part of the state’s local identity. From their hot lunch meals to their fine grocery products (Including cheese, of course), the company has become a hit. Governor Evers specifically named the “Glazers” donuts in his holiday proclamation, a true testament to their impact.
Today, Kwik Trip has nearly 900 stores across six states. However, only one state has a holiday dedicated to their success. The company responded to Evers’ declaration on X by stating, “IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
