Highway 83 in Delafield began construction early in spring of 2025 and was initially anticipating an October reopening. As the date has been pushed back, local motorists, residents, and businesses have been eager for the stretch to reopen.
The City of Delafield has announced that on Monday, November 10, the new portions of Highway 83 between I-94 and WIS 16 will finally be open to the public.
Improvements were made to the Highway in hopes of creating a stretch of road that would be safer. One of the project’s primary goals was to improve traffic flow and give people a better driving experience. Now that vision has become a reality.
The general public will have the opportunity to take their first ride down Highway 83. After a long year of construction cones and closures, it will be a rewarding experience for many locals.
However, the City of Delafield Police Department has stated that there may still be some issues:
“Traffic signals may not be operational by Monday. Expect both the intersections at Oakwood Road / North Shore Drive (County KE) and Cardinal Lane to be 4 way stops until the signals are fully operational. Watch for backups and expect delays until the signals are operational later in the week.
Please note that there are still construction operations happening. Please pay attention while in the work zone and watch for changing road conditions and traffic patterns.”
Some of the delays still anticipated may include shoulders and lane closures, lane shifts, flagging operations, and temporary traffic holds.
The opening will once again give both residents and visitors full access to Highway 83. Recently, many businesses have shared that the construction has heavily impacted them.
In a post, Inclusion Coffee Company stated that “Highway 83 construction has hurt us for nearly 6 months- we’re asked daily about when the road will reopen.”
Now, as the road has an opening date, the local coffee shop is celebrating with a Grand Reopening Celebration planned for the weekend of Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15.
Other nearby businesses, such as the Sentry in Delafield, have also expressed their excitement over the reopening. As the season for winter weather quickly approaches, Highway 83 will be a welcome addition to many people’s daily drive.
