Artist Todd Westover has captured the essence of a beloved Oconomowoc landmark in his latest commissioned painting of the City Beach Band Shell.
According to The Oconomowoc Enterprise, Westover’s piece pays tribute to the Rhodee Memorial Band Shell, a structure that has been the backdrop to countless musical performances and memories for those in the Oconomowoc community.
Westover explained that the idea for the painting came from his childhood friend, Marianne Spellman, who suggested he create the piece. The artist, now based in Los Angeles, reflected on his childhood memories of the band shell while bringing the artwork to life.
“I remember the feeling of sitting in the audience at the band shell with friends and family, enjoying the magical Midwestern light and the warmth of summer evenings,” he shared. For Westover, the band shell symbolized more than just a venue; it was a canvas for his dreams and a vital part of his summers growing up.
The painting beautifully captures both the physical beauty and emotional significance of the historic structure.
As noted in the Oconomowoc Enterprise, the piece reflects Westover’s deep connection to his hometown and the lasting influence of his music teacher, Dwayne Block, at Greenland Elementary School.
For those interested, prints of the band shell painting are available in various sizes on Westover’s website, www.westovertodd.com. The artwork serves as a lasting tribute to a structure that has been a part of the Oconomowoc community for decades.
