The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department proudly announced it succeeded in a ‘major cocaine bust’ in January of 2025.
The Sheriff’s Department stated that officers seized more than 9 ounces of cocaine and $52,000 in cash after a routine traffic stop turned into a much more serious interaction.
Earlier this year, a Menomonee Falls Police officer noticed a driver speeding near Appleton Ave. and Ruby Rd., and proceeded to conduct an otherwise routine traffic stop.
The driver was allegedly driving a Chevy Malibu at the time.
During the stop, officers searched the car and discovered the thousands of dollars in cash as well as the 9 ounces of cocaine. According to authorities, that cocaine has a street value of at least $8,000.
Upon discovery of the cash and illegal drugs, the driver of the vehicle now faces ‘multiple criminal charges’.
This comes as part of the Waukesha County Drug Task Force‘s efforts for a “Criminal Highway Interdiction Operation”.
This coordinated operation is primarily intended to prevent drug trafficking, illegal weapons trafficking, car theft, and other major crimes from occurring on local roads.
The Sheriff’s Department stated that “As a result of these efforts, a suspected dealer is off the streets and dangerous drugs are out of our community.”
Waukesha County’s Drug Task Force works alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to combat the sale and use of drugs within the county.
The program is co-led by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Justice.
Waukesha County is a designated High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area alongside Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Racine counties.
It achieved this designated status in 2009, after federal reports analyzing drug markets and enforcement programs in the area were high risk.
Since 2009, the drug threats in the area have evolved. In prior years, marijuana and cocaine proved to be the narcotics that were most frequently seized by law enforcement. However, in recent years, fentanyl has become a major crisis.
This recent cocaine bust has shown that the Task Force has been effective in giving officers the proper tools to help mitigate drug sales and use in the community.
