Milwaukee Brewers fans have reason to celebrate as the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District approved a new lease agreement for American Family Field, ensuring the team will remain in Milwaukee through 2050.
According to ABC12, this decision solidifies the Brewers’ long-term presence in the city and was made possible by bipartisan cooperation at the state and local levels.
This lease comes just over a year after Governor Tony Evers signed a stadium funding bill, which plays a pivotal role in financing the agreement.
The Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District voted Wednesday to approve a new lease agreement for American Family Field, ensuring that the Brewers will stay in the city through 2050.
Wednesday’s vote comes just over a year after Gov. Tony Evers signed a stadium funding bill keeping the Brewers in Wisconsin.
Over the next 27 years, the state will contribute approximately $360 million through taxes collected from player salaries. Additionally, Milwaukee and Milwaukee County will provide $135 million, while the Brewers will add $110 million to the package.
A key component of the deal includes winterizing American Family Field, a $25 million project that aims to make the stadium a year-round venue for events beyond baseball. Opened in 2001, the stadium has been a cornerstone of Wisconsin sports culture, and this agreement ensures its legacy for future generations.
“This is a home run, and it’s a great day to be a Wisconsinite and a Brewers fan,” said Gov. Evers in a statement. “I am incredibly proud of the good, bipartisan work that has gone into getting to today.” Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger echoed the sentiment, expressing gratitude to the Professional Baseball Park District and state leaders for their collaborative efforts.
