Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary Provides Update on Legal Battle

Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary has given their supporters an update after opening up about their recent lawsuit from a group of nearby residents.

Since the situation became public in late September of 2025, the zoo has been relatively quiet about the ongoing legal battle. Although they update their Facebook page daily, these updates usually focus more on their animals, including their litter of tiger cubs who were born earlier this year.

However, this past weekend the zoo decided to address some questions that people have been asking in the aftermath. The brief updates are “Short given that the case is pending”.

First, Shalom stated that the zoo itself was being sued, as was the Town of Farmington. The plaintiffs are currently operating under the group known as ‘We Love Farmington’.

Second, they made a correction about the Forest at Farmington subdivision’s Home Owners Association. They had previously believed that the president of that HOA was RJ Kahn, but stated that this was not true. A certified letter that they recently received informed them that he is no longer the president.

Finally, they addressed some of the questions concerning zoning classifications, stating:

“The Town [of Farmington] has zoned Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary, our son’s property next door, [a 15 acre property], and a [6.4 acre property] all as ‘agricultural’. That is why Shalom is permitted to operate as a zoo and a wildlife sanctuary. The zoning classifications have not changed for decades, meaning these properties were all zoned agricultural when the [complainants] moved here in 2021 and in 2024.”

Shalom has received plenty of support from the community despite the lawsuit.

Over 500 yard signs supporting Shalom have been sold, and the inventory has been so popular that it is currently out of stock. The signs were created and are being sold by one of the zoo’s neighbors, who has never expressed any noise problems due to their zoning.

Despite these mounting pressures, both from the plaintiffs and the lawsuits financial burdens, the zoo has continued to keep guests entertained. They recently installed interactive tree signs along the nature trail and have had electricians preparing holiday lights for the upcoming Christmas at the Zoo Holiday Drive Thru.
