Oconomowoc High School students recently came together to support pediatric cancer care in a big way.
According to the Oconomowoc Enterprise, the students raised $2,750 during a Miracle Minute fundraiser held just before their football game against Waukesha West.
The funds collected will benefit the Starr Children’s Fund, which focuses on pediatric cancer care and research.
For one minute, students passed around buckets in the stands, encouraging fans to contribute to the cause. The decision to support the Starr Children’s Fund was personal for many, as the school community has been impacted by pediatric cancer.
The students were moved by the fact that, of the billions spent annually on cancer research, only 4% is allocated to childhood cancer.
The Starr Children’s Fund was established by legendary quarterback Bart Starr and his wife, Cherry Starr, in collaboration with the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. The Starrs launched the fund to help raise money for pediatric cancer research, and to date, they have raised over $16 million to help fight cancer.
Oconomowoc High School’s efforts serve as an important reminder of how communities can come together to support important causes, especially those that directly impact the lives of children.
This successful fundraiser not only raised money but also helped raise awareness for pediatric cancer, furthering the efforts of the Starr Children’s Fund.
