Who are Janet Protasiewicz’s top donors, and how much has she raised during her campaign for Wisconsin Supreme Court?

The progressive judge from Milwaukee County surpasses the competition in the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court with her aggressive fundraising. Lynde Uihlein, Herb Kohl, Karla Jurvetson, and several Lubar family members have given the maximum amount they could donate. Janet Protasiewicz has received $20,000, the maximum donation allowed by law, from these key donors.

As a result, Protasiewicz raised more than $900,000 in 2022, which gave the Democratic candidate a massive head start against the other candidates. The two right-wing candidates, Jennifer Dorow and Daniel Kelly, didn’t announce their campaigns until later in 2022.

Protasiewicz reports raising another $900,000 in 2023.

In contrast, two of the three additional candidates reported zero fundraising in 2022. The Waukesha County Judge and Republican, Jennifer Dorow, reports raising over $400,000 in 2023.

Former WI Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly, the other Republican candidate in the race, reported raising more than $100,000 in 2023. Dane County Judge Democrat Everett Mitchell has reported raising around $70,000 in 2023 so far. The candidates will continue raising funds, so these numbers will likely change rapidly.

The primary election will take place on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. It will ultimately eliminate two candidates, and the remaining two will proceed to the general election in April.

While state law does set limits to what people and political action committees can donate directly to candidates, individuals can donate unlimited amounts to groups like Super PACs, which can shell out endless amounts of money to attack or support candidates in online advertisements, television ads, radio broadcasts, etc.
