Eleven people were injured at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Saturday when an escalator malfunctioned after the Brewers’ game against the Chicago Cubs. The escalator, which was moving fans from the Terrace Level to the Loge Level, suddenly increased speed, causing chaos among the passengers.
According to a statement from the Brewers provided to Fox6, the escalator experienced a malfunction that resulted in an increased downward speed. Greg Braggs Jr., a reporter with CHGO Sports and one of the injured, described the terrifying incident.

“All of a sudden we were about halfway down the slope of the escalator, and the whole thing shook and made a noise,” Braggs said. “As soon as we kind of laughed off the fear, the entire thing just broke loose and started running downhill like a roller coaster.”
Braggs detailed the frightening moments as people began piling up on top of each other. “I’m watching the people ahead of me getting piled on top of each other as everybody’s falling over each other,” he recalled, adding that some elderly individuals were severely injured and trampled according to CNN.
Of the eleven injured, five were treated at the ballpark, while the other six were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. “Our onsite physician and EMS were on the scene immediately, and we are appreciative of their quick response,” the Brewers spokesperson stated.
The Milwaukee Police Department has been contacted for further details regarding the incident.
The Brewers lost to the Cubs 5-3 in the game preceding the accident.
