Wisconsin tax collections up 1.9% for December, 5.2% for fiscal year

(The Center Square) – Wisconsin collected nearly $2.1 billion in general purpose taxes and fees in December, up from $2.0 billion in the same month in 2023.

That means the state has now collected $9.7 billion for the fiscal year, up from more than $9.2 billion the year before.

The tax collections represented a 1.9% increase in December collections a 5.2% increase so far this fiscal year.

December sales tax collections were $622 million, above the $600 million collected in December 2023, representing a 3.7% increase. For the year, the state has collected nearly $3.3 billion in sales tax compared to nearly $3.2 billion at this point a year ago, a 2.7% increase.

Individual income tax collections were up 3.5% in December, going from nearly $898 million in December 2023 to $929 million. This fiscal year, individual income tax collections are now $4.7 billion, up from $4.3 billion a year before, representing an 8.4% increase.

The tax collection report “does not include taxes collected by the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, administrative fees, and other miscellaneous revenues,” according to the Department of Revenue.
