SUSSEX, Wis. – Two Milwaukee men with a history of serving federal prison time together are now accused in a Sussex bank robbery that took place on Tuesday, July 9, according to Fox 6.

Prosecutors allege that 30-year-old Jules Bahler robbed the bank while 38-year-old Shane Tillman acted as the getaway driver. Police responded to a bank on Main Street near Sussex Road shortly after noon. According to the criminal complaint, a teller reported that a man initially inquired about opening an account.

Shortly after, the same man returned to the teller’s window, passing a note that read, “This is a robbery, give me all the money.” The teller stated that the man threatened to shoot, though no weapon was visible.

The suspect left with between $4,000 and $5,000.

The robbery was recorded on the bank’s surveillance cameras, allowing detectives to identify Bahler as the suspect. The getaway vehicle, a pickup truck, was also captured on video. Investigators used various camera footage to track down the truck’s license plate, which was co-registered in Tillman’s name.

Police apprehended Tillman at a Milwaukee motel where he was residing. During an interview with detectives, Tillman admitted to driving the pickup truck during the robbery but claimed he believed Bahler was planning to “pass a bad check.” Tillman stated it wasn’t until Bahler returned to the truck that he realized a robbery had occurred, at which point they fled the scene.

Tillman made his initial court appearance on July 12, where his cash bond was set at $250,000. The investigation and charges highlight the serious nature of the crime and the efforts by law enforcement to swiftly identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
